Well, I'm not quite sure where to start. Sooooo many people scrapbook and we all do it so differently. I'll use this page to share why I scrapbook, how I scrapbook, what I like, what I don't like and anything else I can think to share with you about my #1 hobby! I will post some pictures soon of pages out of my kids' scrapbooks, too.

I began scrapbooking in 1998 or 1999 ... I think. I honestly can't remember when I started! I had a wonderful friend who lived across the street from me and she loved to share with me the newest pages she had scrapped each week. They were beautiful and, eventually, I asked her to get me started so that I could chronicle the lives of my own children. I don't have but about 2-3 pictures of myself as a child here at my house. My mom says that she has lots of pictures of me, though, and I might scrapbook an album of myself once I get caught up on my children's pictures (of course, if you are a scrapbooker, you know how nearly impossible it is to stay caught up!).

I will state right now now that I am a Creative Memories addict. I got started by attending a Creative Memories (CM) party and I just loved the simplicity that I saw in getting photos into albums. The CM consultant really emphasized the importance of putting the photos into albums and just adding touches of personality here and there with pretty paper and stickers. She told us to get the stories into the albums. Take the time to journal what the pictures are about. Just putting a date next to a pictures doesn't tell anyone about the story behind the pictures. I see so many scrapbooking magazines nowadays that emphasize the embellishments and, while I am in awe of the beauty of this type of scrapbooking, I find myself looking more at all of the frou-frou add-ons than the picture itself! And, why would anyone scrap only ONE picture per page? To me, this is a waste of time and money. However, I know that not everyone scrapbooks the same ... it's just not the way that I like to do it.

I do wish that I was a better photographer. I take 'ok' pictures, but I wish that I knew how to catch those spontaneous moments better. I have a love/hate relationship with my newer digital camera, too. I held out going digital for YEARS, but finally had to face the fact that my Advantix camera wasn't giving me good pictures anymore. So, digital I went. I like it because I can take lots of pictures and delete those that are not print-worthy. I don't like it because I don't get my pictures developed as quickly as I used to ... I don't even want to think about the cost of getting all of the pictures from the past year printed out and ready to scrapbook. I think that I will be very choosy and work to edit and then print only the really good ones. That feature of the digital camera I do like as I won't be left with a lot of pictures that are never scrapbooked and possibly even thrown out because the shot is so bad!

My children love, love, LOVE looking through their albums. It gives me such pleasure to know that they appreciate the time and effort that goes in to putting their lives down for everyone to see. I scrapbook my children's pictures in separate albums and they will be given the albums to take with them when they leave home. That way, they can share their childhood with their own children. I have lots and lots of extra pictures and I may sit down once they leave the next and put together an album just for myself. Not sure yet ... by that time, I may need to scrapbook albums for the grandkids - LOL!

It is my hope that you will find something useful here on my site!
I currently enjoy the privilege of being able to stay at home
to homeschool my children and I am always striving to be
the best caretaker for my precious family.
