This page is the story of a wonderfully giving woman, my mom! She has quilted now for over 25 years and estimates that she has given away over 100 quilts in that time. Now, let me explain, too, that my mom does NOT machine quilt ... everything is hand-stitched with these little, itty-bitty stitches. She stitches beautiful designs into the squares, too, once she has all of the squares put together into the topper. And, in addition, most of these are quilts for beds as she makes them for wedding gifts. She also makes a lot of baby quilts - bigger ones that can be thrown on the floor for the child to play on. I am just in awe of her talent!
My mom was always into crafts growing up ... she learned quilling, embroidery, tole painting, stained glass, cross-stitch and many other hobbies. However, once she started quilting, that is all she has done. She gets tremendous pleasure from gifting her beautiful quilts. The sad thing is that I was not a scrapbooker when she started quilting and she has absolutely NO pictures of the quilts that she has made! She also has not kept any records of the number of quilts that she has given away as gifts. My dad is also still bugging her to make a quilt for THEIR own bed - LOL!
Now, I have a sister, but neither one of us wants to learn how to quilt. Honestly, I can't sew worth beans anyway, so I won't be creating any masterpieces like my mom does! I know it must frustrate her that neither of her daughters will learn how to quilt. However, my daughter has shown some interest in learning how to quilt and my mom has given her some instruction already. I am hoping that she will pick that needle back up and complete the project that she has started, a lap quilt for a friend.
There is a type of quilting that I do intend to have my mom teach me - the fringe quilt. She tells me that it is extremely easy and can be done on a sewing machine. So, I am hoping to learn this technique in 2007. Here are some pictures of what I'm talking about:
It is my hope that you will find something useful here on my site! I currently enjoy the privilege of being able to stay at home to homeschool my children and I am always striving to be the best caretaker for my precious family.
