On this page, you will find lots of links to kid-friendly websites. I will add more info as I come across it.
The Evan-Moor newsletter has LOTS of great free stuff in it. You can sign up here. It's not just school stuff either ... a lot of the free activities and lesson plans can be adapted to help foster fun family times on the weekends!
Do you have a science-minded child? Would you like to be able to foster that interest? Are you looking for hard-to-find items like dissection kits? Then you must head over to Home Science Tools! This is a great site ... be sure to sign up for their newsletter because they offer special savings through it often.
Well, it's the weekend and you want more for your kids than constant TV watching. Go with them to Jan Brett's website and let them choose from the 3,000+ pages of free activities, coloring pages, and projects available there! It's an absolute treasure trove of beauty! If you sign up for her newsletter, she will let you know when she has added more activities to her site. You can even make a mural of the rainforest! If you get a chance, attend her book-signings. We did this in 2004 and she was a most gracious lady, signing one book per child and posing for pictures with our family. She and I have corresponded by email several times - she will answer your questions and will send you autographed bookplates if you request them! As you can tell, I just love Jan Brett!
Are you looking for fun activities, worksheets, puzzles, crosswords, reading comprehension sheets, etc. for your homeschool program? Then look no further than edHelper.com or EnchantedLearning.com. These sites are wonderful resources for any parent or teacher! You can view and print many, many worksheets on these sites on any subject you can think of!
There is one slight difference between the two sites. At EnchantedLearning.com, a visitor is able to view all of the 16,000 pages of information and print off what is needed. However, if you become a subscriber for $20/year, then you are able to print off sheets without all of the frames and you will also be able to view more printer-friendly pages: "As a bonus for subscribing to our site ($20.00 for a 12-month individual/ family membership), you'll get access to a banner-ad-free version of the site with extra printing capabilities (printer-friendly pages and the ability to enlarge images), plus access to the entire website. Site subscribers can access the member's website from any Internet-connected computer. Memberships last for 12 months, beginning when you join - we do NOT do automatic renewals." This site is suited best for grades K-5, in my opinion.
At edHelper.com, a visitor is only able to view samples of the workpages. To take advantage of the ability to create your own pages or to view the samples in their entirety, then you must become a member ... again the cost is $20/year. This site covers ALL grages, K-12 and covers A LOT more information than EnchantedLearning.com. They have biographies, history units - they just added an Ancient Egypt unit, and lists of themes by month.
I really enjoy using both of these sites. I joined EnchantedLearning to help with teaching a human body class at our co-op and it was worth it. Check them out and see if they can help you with supplemental activities for your kids!
Learning Page provides a huge collection of professionally produced instructional materials you can download and print. Lesson plans, books, worksheets, and much more can be found on the site. Start by checking out their free samples.

There is one catalog that I love to receive ... it's called Mindware -"Brainy toys for kids of all ages." You can visit their website to request a catalog. They have are so many good toys, books, games, etc. to go along with History, Science, Math and Logic/Creative Thinking. They always feature the Mensa games of the year. This year it's a game called Da Vinci's Challenge. For your History studies, there is the Senat or Ancient Egyptians games for Egypt or mosaic kits for your Greece study. There is a papyrus and paint kit which includes all your child will need to paint 3 pictures on actual papyrus! The Made for Trade (colonial America) game is sold in this catalog as well as many other items to enhance your study of World History, geography or American History. There are games for science including a new game called David Macaulay's Way Things Work game ... cool! Kids can create robots and build with Erector sets, launch a hydrogen fuel rocket, build a miniature house with real mortar and bricks, as well as learn about physics by creating flexible marble runs. Logic and Creative thinking workbooks and games abound in this catalog! There are even puzzle books for adults, too! There are Triazzle puzzles, maze books and lots of finger puzzles. In addition to "brainy games," there ia a wide variety of craft sets - knitting, beading, weaving, tie-dye, origami, embroidery, etc. You name it and it's probably here.
Ok, I'm hooked on these new games that I have found and I just have to share more information about them. You may have already heard about them, but you may not know that they've just add A LOT of new titles for 2005! I like to get my games at Educational Learning Games because they are discounted there and shipping is free for orders over $75. Now back to describing the Professor Noggin Card Games. They are rated for ages 7+ and to be played with a minimum of 2 players. These games "combine trivia, true/false, and multiple choice questions using 30 professionally illustrated cards." My family has also figured out that you can play a solitaire version, too! On the cards are TWO sets of questions, one Easy and the other Hard. When playing, each player can choose which set of questions they want to answer. I have to admit that I usually start with the Easy questions because I am learning right along with the kids - LOL! However, to make it more fair, I often have the kids read me the Hard questions while I read them the Easy ones. If the player gets the answer correct, then they get to keep the card. If their answer is incorrect, the card remains in play and is placed on the bottom of the deck. The person who has the most cards once all are gone is the winner. The answers to the questions are on the side of the card, so one can play a solitaire version by just covering up the answers and play a timed game ... how many can they get right in 5 minutes? ... or how long does it take them to get all of the cards correct? The kids want to keep improving their time so they keep playing! These games are great to keep in the car for errand-running time or they can be played while waiting in the Dr.'s office! The kids and I always finish up our homeschool day by grabbing a title and playing for about 30 minutes. We look forward to this time each day.
I just placed my 2nd order yesterday because there were about about 10 titles that we were wanting to add to our collection. They are only $8 each and they have won MANY awards:
- Parenting for High Potential Magazine Award with the National Association for Gifted Children, Parents' Choice Award Winner 2002,
-Gold Award National Parenting Publications Award (NAPPA) 2003, and
-Dr. Toys Best Vacation Products for 2003.
