- Positive Things about the LA Weight Loss Plan -
- Negative Things about the LA Weight Loss Plan -
I have tried and tried to lose weight over and over again. Part of my problem is that I deal with several other medical issues - insulin resistance and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Both of these make it very difficult to lose weight. I finally decided that if I PAID someone to help me, that the weight would come off quicker. So, after watching my mom lose a steady 2 lbs. weekly for over a month, I decided to join LA Weight Loss. I did some research online and there seemed to be both those people who had good and bad experiences with it. However, my mom really recommended the one-on-one counseling and so I went for it. It is expensive, especially if you buy the recommended supplements. Here's a quick breakdown of what I've experienced up until now ... I'll update this page as I go through the program.
March 3, 2007 - After meeting with my counselor mid-February, it was decided that I would go on hold until the end of March. After reading a book on food allergies, I am convinced that I have them, most likely to wheat, MSG and added sugar. I am trying to eliminate these items from my diet so that I can see if it affects my ability to lose weight. I am running on the treadmill 4-5 mornings a week and will add in some weight training and pilates/yoga classes this month. I'm actually not too worried about the number on the scale, but more focused on being as healthy as I can be.
January 26, 2007 - After meeting with the counselor yesterday and discussing my desire to take a break from the program so that I can get some lab work done, we agreed that this was probably in my best interest. I haven't lost any weight in over a month and so we aren't sure if it's due to my metabolic issues, my bronchitis and use of antibiotics or what. So, I'm to make an appointment with my Dr. and get some lab work done to try and figure things out.
January 12, 2007 - I am STILL only 8 lbs. down ... no extra weight has come off in about 6 weeks. I'm tired of drinking all of that water, too! My kids get sick and then I get sick with bronchitis. Antibiotics are prescribed and I am told to eat yogurt twice daily (only one is allowed on plan). My counselor notes this and also sees that I am having a hard time getting the water down. I haven't been able to exercise this month as I would like due to the bronchitis and an extremely busy schedule, so the weight is still holding steady at my weigh-ins. However, I notice at home that my weight appears to be heading downward. Only time will tell!
Nov/Dec 2006 - I started the plan before the holidays on purpose as it's a time when I usually gain weight. I didn't this year! I didn't lose any, but I didn't gain either and that was a success all by itself. At the end of the year, I had lost about 8 lbs, but 14 inches! The weight is coming off very, VERY slowly, but my favorite pair of jeans is about to be given to someone else as they are falling off of me.
I am exercising by running on the treadmill 4 mornings a week, 2-3 miles each time. Because of this extra calorie-burning and my hunger, the counselor calls the dietician who recommends that I go on the activities plan which allows me a bit more food each day. I do feel better after switching to this plan.
October 25, 2006 - started program ($479 to lose 31 lbs.). I bought the plan that would keep me under their care even if I didn't lose the weight by their projected date of Feb. 12, 2007. What this means is that I won't have to pay a weekly fee if I'm still above my target weight on 2-12-07 -and- if I maintain my weight for 6 months, I'll get 25% of my money back ($119) and then another $119 if i maintain my weight, within 5 lbs., for another 6 months. However, the catch is that I have to keep eating their LA Lites and as you can see by the cost below, that gets expensive!
I have bought the LA Lite plan recommended for my weight loss and required to get my money back. These are protein bars or shakes or hot drinks/soups that you consume twice daily as snacks. ($417). I also bought two supplements - Fat Blockers and one that helps with water retention and constipation ($198). I'm not sure they are needed, but I buy them anyway. The counselors ARE NOT pushy about this at all.

It is my hope that you will find something useful here on my site! I currently enjoy the privilege of being able to stay at home to homeschool my children and I am always striving to be the best caretaker for my precious family.
