Science Programs to check out!

There are many, many good science programs out there and I have to say that it has been very difficult to choose one program to use each year. Below are some other programs that I have looked at and considered as well as links to helpful websites to supplement your studies!
Noeo Homeschool Science
Apologia curriculum
My World Science (MWS)
Real Science 4 Kids, which covers Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
Home Science Adventures - these look great; very hands-on!
Great Science Adventures by Dinah Zike - these would make a great addition to any science study or you could use them on their own for a more hands-on approach to learning!
Classical Home Education's R.E.A.L. Science - this is different from REALScience4Kids!
Sam's Science Adventures - get a new project every month!
Rainbow Science - at this point, they only have Jr. High levels and the Chemistry for high school available
Friendly Chemistry - I'm still thinking about purchasing this as a supplement to high school science

The "Sense of Wonder" series by John Hudson Tiner (Exploring Planet Earth, Exploring Chemistry, Exploring the History of Medicine) and Gary Parker (Exploring the World Around You) - I'm going to use these to supplement our studies of Chemistry, the Human Body and Habitats.
Mindware catalog - great stuff!
An online FREE science curriculum!
Living Learning Books has science curriculum, too!
Exploring the Way Life Works - a Biology text that I am considering using instead of Apologia. I've heard rave reviews about it!
Creating Unit Studies with the Apologia Physical Science book
Science for Today and Tomorrow - Science kits for homeschooling families
This pages has lists of science plans that other Classical Educators have created for their families!
How to Create Your Own Science Lesson Plans
Free Lessons for K-12!
Armchair Chemistry - free lessons!
Science News for Kids!
Classical Astronomy
Sandy's Science Lessons Plan page
Online Look at the Human Body w/quiz!

2005-6 Review

For 2005-6, my 4th grader and I will be using two different curriculum. We will use My World Science (MWS) for the first semester. MWS uses the One Small Square books by Donald Silver as the basis for many of its units. I have had these wonderful books for about 5 years and my kids have looked through them often. I am very happy to have finally found a curriculum written by a homeschooling mom and incorporating these books. Because my youngest will be in 4th grade and has already read these books many times, our studies will be shortened to 4-6 weeks which is a bit quicker than the 10 weeks recommended by the author of My World Science. During the second semester, we'll cover the Apologia Young Explorer - Astronomy book (under "Elementary Science"). Once again, we will be using a shortened schedule for this study. It was intended by the author to take a year to cover the material, but my son devours science and this will be more of a review anyway. You can view a 14-week schedule by clicking here. I have found a great Astronomy activity book to accompany our studies - it is called Out of this World Astronomy: 50 Amazing Activities and Projects and looks fabulous!

Now, I must say that I do NOT believe that shortening the schedule for the Apologia Young Explorer series is the best way to go through this material. It will work for us because both of these subjects are review material at this time. In looking through the books, I think it would be best to spend at least two weeks on each Lesson. Who knows? We may get into it and decide we want to take things a little slower - I will let my son lead on this

My 6th grader was to begin the Apologia series with Apologia General Science in 2005-6, but after seeing how much fun her brother was having with My World Science, she decided to join him! I don't think she was quite ready for the serious stuff yet and that was fine with me!

2004-5 Review

Our science program for 2004-5 has been VERY eclectic! We began the year using entire Sonlight's Core 3 program, but it just wasn't a good fit for us. We switched over to Tapestry of Grace for the History and Literature, but we have continued through most of the Sonlight Level 3 science program. We will begin studying the Apologia Young Explorer Series - Botany on March 28th and will use a shortened schedule to complete this study before beginning our summer break. Click here to view this shortened schedule. The projects in this book look great and I decided that I did not want to drive around town gathering the items for them, so I purchased a supply kit from Creation Sensation. After looking at it, I'm glad that I made the purchase! They sell kits for both the Botany and Astronomy studies.

It is my hope that you will find something useful here on my site!
I currently enjoy the privilege of being able to stay at home
to homeschool my children and I am always striving to be
the best caretaker for my precious family.
